ETHEREAL YOGA
Be. Here. Now.
Be carful when doing this pose. It is important that you listen to your body. While lying flat on the ground, bend your knees while keeping you feet flat on the ground. Your toes pointed straight out in front and heels straight back. With your feet hip distance apart, gradually raise your hips off the ground while bringing both of your palms together. Your arms should be under your body for support. The weight should not be on your neck, but should be on your shoulders. Bring your shoulders closer together as much as you can. Once you feel supported, you will be able to lift your hips higher off the ground. Stay in this pose for half a minute with normal breathing.
You can modify this pose by holding up the small of your back with your hands. I find that this pose is very helpful when stretching for this pose and provides the support that is needed to get your hips higher off the ground for that deeper stretch. This is placing the weight on your upper arms. Notice that I am on the tips of my toes.
You can also press your hands flat to the floor. This pose is healthy for the spine. A flexible spine indicates a healthy nervous system. When nerves are in good health, we are sound in mind and body.
This pose is therapeutic for insomnia, asthma, and high blood pressure. This can improve lung capacity, brain function, and help decrease stress and anxiety. You will build the strengthen in your neck, chest and spine while stimulating your ab organs, digestion, and thyroid.
