Caring Through The Holidays

The holidays usually leave me with the feeling of FULLness and Love! Winter is a time for comfort, incredible food, and warmth. We usually host the holiday events in our home which changes my daily routines in more than one way. The feeling of guilt can overwhelm me throughout the holiday season, and I can understand why so many of us make a New Years Resolution to kick in their fitness goals.

While the holidays bring togetherness, it also brings desserts, comfort foods, and of course the alcoholic and non-alcoholic sugary beverages. Not to mention the lack of exercise. I don't know about you, but I tend to feel awful and unaligned without my practice and self loving rituals.

I am the only person in my family and friends that eats fully plant-based, yet I help prepare a full Thanksgiving and Christmas meal for everyone. I find special ways to create holiday flavors using plant-based ingredients for myself. After this last Thanksgiving, we decided to make 'Pot Pies' that have so much comfort yumminess. I ate the whole thing in less than 2 days, and of course I immediately realized how lazy and tired I was feeling.

Of course our bodies need food that creates good energy, but we are allowed to live. We don't call it comfort food for nothing. So enjoy for the day, maybe two. Then get back to your groove. Learn to indulge yourself in meditation, journaling, walking, talking, reading, yoga, or hugging.

As I continue through this journey of life, I realize that I no longer desire to create a resolution once a year for diets, fitness, etc. I continue to change throughout the year, and create new rituals. Nourishing ourselves inside and out should be a daily routine, full of self love and self care. Eat. Hydrate. Move. Rest. Enjoy, even during the holiday season! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
